Foundational Fridays – Safer Injecting 101

This 2-hour webinar is a part of our Foundational Fridays Series taking place every last Friday of the month from 12 pm – 2 pm EST from July 2025 – June 2026.

This webinar will provide foundational knowledge on the principles of safer drug injection practices. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of how harm reduction strategies can minimize health risks associated with injection drug use, such as abscesses, injection-related injuries, and the transmission of bloodborne viruses like HIV and Hepatitis C. The session will also address strategies for preventing overdose, emphasizing the importance of a comprehensive approach to health and safety.

The webinar will focus on effective methods for engaging individuals in open, non-judgmental conversations about their injection practices, with the goal of fostering a supportive, trusting relationship. Participants will learn how to apply harm reduction principles to interact with people who use drugs, providing them with the tools and information needed to make informed, healthier choices regarding their injection practices.

By the end of the session, participants will have a clear understanding of how safer injection equipment can reduce health risks, and how to tailor harm reduction information to meet the unique needs and circumstances of individuals who inject drugs. Attendees will also be equipped with practical skills to guide individuals through the injection process in a safer manner, ensuring they feel supported and informed in their decision-making.

This webinar is designed to enhance participants’ ability to integrate harm reduction approaches into their work, promoting a safer and more compassionate environment for individuals who inject drugs.
