Watch Michael Botticelli, White House Drug Czar open 10th National Harm Reduction Conference


WATCH the opening remarks from Michael Botticelli, the White House’s Acting Director of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) at 10th National Harm Reduction Conference.

Mr. Botticelli has been a champion of a public health response to drug use throughout his 2 decades of supporting people affected by drugs. He has brought his dynamic presence to ONDCP, in particular promoting a multi-pronged approach to reducing overdose deaths which includes wider access to naloxone. Prior to joining ONDCP, Mr. Botticelli served as Director of the Bureau of Substance Abuse Services at the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, where he successfully expanded innovative prevention, intervention, treatment, and recovery services.

Watch Mr. Botticelli open the 10th National Harm Reduction Conference in front of an audience of 1,000 advocates, frontline workers, researchers, clinicians, and social service providers. This plenary by Mr. Botticelli reflects the considerable gains made by the harm reduction community over the last two decades and set the tone for the conference to foster new strategies, partnerships and leadership to realize the vision of public health, social justice and human rights for people with histories of drug use as we look to the future.

The 10th National Harm Reduction Conference was held at the Renaissance Baltimore Harborplace Hotel in Baltimore, MA from October 23rd to 26th 2014.
