SUMMARY:Basics of Wound Care
DESCRIPTION:This 2 -hour virtual training will cover the basics of wound care commonly needed while working at an SSP. At completion of this panel participants will have a greater understanding and awareness of specific health concerns experienced by people who use drugs, and improve ability to offer acute care, counseling and referral for specific injection related wounds in absence of immediate medical intervention.\n Objectives: Through this virtual training we will\n·       Identify various common wounds\n·       Explain to participants how to prevent wounds\n·       Discuss how to address common wounds\nTrainer Bios\nShannon Curry-Izzo worked as a Harm Reduction Counselor at a syringe exchange program in Buffalo, New York for over 6 years, specializing in safer injection and basic wound care. She has been a consultant for the Harm Reduction Coalition since 2014, and has assisted with developing and presenting multiple curriculums. Additionally, she has presented at several national conferences including the National Harm Reduction Conference and United States Conference on AIDS as well as several regional behavioral health conferences. Currently, Ms. Curry-Izzo is a Clinical Trainer at a behavioral health clinic where she is also completing her license in mental health counseling.\nAnn Breidenstein is the Harm Reduction Supportive Counselor at a syringe exchange program in Buffalo, NY where she specializes in providing safer injection counseling. In this role, Ann provides individualized safer use plans and conducts community based outreach with peers. Previously, Ann was the Human Trafficking Program Manager for the Western District of NY and had worked as an advocate for marginalized populations since 2005. Ann continues to work in the syringe exchange program while pursuing her AAS in nursing\nPrerequisite:  None,  although taking Safer Injecting webinars parts 1 and 2 strongly recommended.\nAudience: All health and human service providers, including Peers Workers\nregister here\n
