Description:   Buprenorphine (commonly known by the brand name Suboxone®) is a highly effective treatment for opioid use disorder (aka addiction).  It reduced the risk of disease transmission and of fatal overdose even among patients who continue to use substances as well as among those committed to abstinence from illicit drugs. New York State AIDS Institute currently has major initiatives to increase access to buprenorphine in multiple settings. This webinar will provide an overview of the use of buprenorphine as part of the NYS plan.

As a result of this training, participants will be able to:

•         Describe the role of buprenorphine in reducing the risk of overdose;
•         Understand the differences between methadone and buprenorphine; and
•         List four New York State initiatives to increase access to buprenorphine.
