HRC is looking for material for our newsletter, Harm Reduction Communication. We like to include a mix of material: "how to" articles that describe harm reduction projects, programs, activities, etc that can be replicated by others; opinion and theory; first person accounts by drug users (or service providers); risk reduction information; research findings; problem-solving pieces; materials that can serve as part of the historical record, interviews, surveys, and occasionally, fiction and poetry. We are also on the lookout for materials that make the newsletter more attractive, so if you have any artistic ideas or projects you think would make good collaborations--photographs, illustrations, cartoons, computer graphics, etc--don't hesitate to contact the newsletter editor. We serve as a forum for people who have little access to traditional media formats. If you are a drug user, incarcerated or recently discharged, living on the street or in shelters, we invite you to submit something to us. The same goes for service providers on the front lines of the drug war. If you need help writing your article, please don't be shy in asking for it. We can't promise to print all submissions, but we'll try! Articles usually run from 1-3 newsletter pages, but longer pieces can be printed if space permits. Because we have a mixed readership (drug users of varied backgrounds, service providers and others who work for CBOs, researchers and clinicians, public health workers, etc.) we prefer an informal style, i.e. not too academic. Footnotes are permissible, though we try to keep them to a minimum. See below for text submission specs. Artwork generally falls into two categories; materials you create in consultation with Harm Reduction Communication's editor, and work you've created on your own but think would be suitable for the newsletter. The first category might include photos, illustrations and graphic designs created to accompany a particlular article or section. The second category most likely is made up of artwork that can stand alone: cartoons and collages are clear examples, as well as photos and larger illustrations. If you are brimming with ideas and would like to work with us to create something specifically for the Communication, please give us a buzz. If you already have work that you think would be suitable for the newsletter, you can submitt it unsolicited--see below for specifications. TEXT: ARTWORK: Send submissions
