Harm Reduction Coalition are active participants at the UNODC’s annual Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND), the Organization of American States (OAS) Inter-American Drug Abuse Control Commission (CICAD) and regularly partner with like-minded organizations across the world to promote policies that respect the rights and lives of all people who use drugs.
2016 UNGASS on Drugs
In 2016 the United Nations will hold a General Assembly Special Session (UNGASS) on drugs at UN headquarters in New York. The General Assembly is the key policy making body of the United Nations and all 193 UN member states have equal representation.
The 2016 UNGASS on drugs comes at a time of growing discontent with the current drug control regime. There is a fracturing consensuses among UN member states about the effectiveness of the current paradigm and increased calls from both member states and civil society to address the unintended consequences of the current drug control regime and to open up the debate to explore alternative approaches.
