California Office Intern

Harm Reduction Coalition is a national advocacy and capacity-building organization that promotes the health and dignity of individuals and communities impacted by drug use. We encourage people who use (or used to use) drugs, current or former sex workers, people of color, women, members from the LGBTQIA communities, those who have experienced housing insecurity, people who have received harm reduction services, and people living with HIV/AIDS and/or hepatitis C to join our team.

Location: West Coast Office – 1440 Broadway, Oakland, CA
Hours: 5 – 10 hours per week – flexible schedule
Reports to: Sarah Weir, California Office Manager

Purpose: Harm Reduction Coalition is seeking an Office Intern to provide administrative, organizing, and data entry assistance to the staff in the California office based in Oakland.
Description: The California office is building out new programs to improve the health and wellness of people who use drugs (PWUD) in California. The Office Intern will contribute by supporting a variety of projects, ranging from data review of naloxone distribution, deliveries of supplies to syringe exchange programs, organizing of flyers and inventory in the office, and other tasks as assigned. The CA Office Intern will also have a chance to help on projects going on within the office that they find interesting and are passionate about. This is an unpaid position but a great opportunity to enhance skills in organization, multi-tasking, and communications in a dynamic non-profit work environment.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Scanning documents and entering them into different files in our computer system
  • Assisting in the preparation of materials for training, including preparing presentation materials, copies for attendees, sign-in sheets, and other supplies our trainers need
  • Maintaining supplies in the office, including administrative and program supplies to ensure staff are able to access what they need
  • Take meeting notes where appropriate
  • Organize educational materials and co-develop an inventory system
  • Pack kits for syringe exchange and overdose prevention programs
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Skills:

  • An interest and commitment to improving the health and wellness of people who use drugs in California; familiarity with harm reduction and syringe exchange programs a plus
  • Ability to work with others
  • General understanding of working a computer and using programs like Word, Excel, etc. using a scanner, copier, and different programs can also be taught. Those who do not feel confident using such devices are still encouraged to apply.
  • Organized and detail-oriented
