Administration & Finance Intern

Harm Reduction Coalition is a national advocacy and capacity-building organization that promotes the health and dignity of individuals and communities impacted by drug use. We encourage people who use (or used to use) drugs, current or former sex workers, people of color, women, members from the LGBTQIA communities, those who have experienced housing insecurity, people who have received harm reduction services, and people living with HIV/AIDS and/or hepatitis C to join our team.

Location: East Coast Office – 22 West 27th Street, 5th Floor, New York NY
Term: Fall 2017 – Spring 2018
Hours: 10 hours per week – flexible schedule
Reports to: Carolina López, Deputy Director of Administration and Finance

Purpose: The Harm Reduction Coalition seeks an Administration & Finance Intern to support the activities of the Operations and Finance team as well as the office of Capacity Building Services.

Description: Harm Reduction Coalition is seeking an intern to assist with functions related to administration and finance in our East Coast office. We are looking for an internally motivated self-starter with a high level of organizational and multi-tasking skills to work across teams to maintain the office’s high level of functioning. Duties will include day-to-day tasks related to finance, administrative support for HRC’s Harm Reduction Training Institute, staff and coalition support, as well as monthly analytics gathering and reporting.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Create, edit, and audit both paper and digital finance, human resources, and other administrative files.
  • Assist with the vouchering process; includes pulling invoices, photocopying, organizing, and refiling a complicated array of paperwork.
  • Administrative preparation for the Harm Reduction Training Institute including photocopying training materials and preparing the physical space; reception duties including managing waitlists and sign-in forms.
  • On a monthly basis, prepare a brief report on compiled analytics from website and various social media accounts.
  • Secretarial duties for staff, network, and coalition meetings as needed.

Required Skills:

  • An interest and commitment to improving the health and wellness of people who use drugs.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Google platforms; knowledge of financial software is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently with close attention to detail; must be able to produce audit-worthy work with minimal supervision.
  • Organized and detail-oriented, able to think through systems and problem-solve.
  • Excellent written, communication, and analytical skills; ability to be flexible and collaborative.
  • Good people skills; a genuine appreciation for different working styles and the ability to work across departments.
  • Demonstrates openness to change and ability to manage complexities.
