Harm Reduction Intervention at United Nations CND

HARM REDUCTION COALITION SPEAKS AT COMMISSION ON NARCOTIC DRUGS

Earlier this week, Harm Reduction Coalition’s Bethany Medley, was invited to speak to the United Nations’ Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND) Intersessional meetings. The CND is the central drug policy-making body within the United Nations and can make recommendations on the implementation of programs, scientific research and political interventions.

As a representative of civil society, Bethany was asked to deliver concrete actions for the international community and various stakeholders to implement the UNGASS outcome document. Bethany spoke on the urgent need to scale-up harm reduction globally, gender-sensitive approaches that address the unique needs of women, the critical shortfalls in global harm reduction funding and the special efforts needed to improve the appallingly low access to harm reduction in prisons.
