Statement in advance of the House vote on the American Health Care Act

The House of Representatives will vote today on the American Health Care Act (AHCA), a cruel and morally bankrupt bill to dismantle the Affordable Care Act and Medicaid.

“In the midst of the greatest overdose epidemic in our nation’s history, any Representative voting yes on AHCA should be under no illusion: no matter how many speeches and roundtables you’ve held, no matter how many bills you’ve introduced, no matter how hard you worked to pass the Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act or advocated for CURES funding to close the treatment gap, this vote will be remembered as your greatest and most destructive legacy in confronting the opioid crisis. You will have to answer to families and friends who lose loved ones to overdose because they could not afford coverage or out of pocket costs for substance use disorder treatment, or because their insurance or state Medicaid program cut back on drug treatment benefits. And you will be held accountable,” said Daniel Raymond, Deputy Director of Planning and Policy.
